Environmental

The Port of Longview's Planning & Environmental Department takes the lead on managing the Port’s environmental, permitting and planning activities.

The department’s role is to prepare the groundwork necessary for projects that bring economic opportunities such as, facilitating the studies, grants, and pre-project work necessary to launch projects. This occurs alongside other port departments, including Business Development, Engineering, Operations and External Affairs. When a project has launched, Planning takes on the permitting and external agency coordination to receive the permits that authorize project construction. Meanwhile Environmental continues the regular monitoring that keeps the Port in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Environmental also launches projects and programs designed to improve the Port’s efficiency and effectiveness

This means understanding and applying environmental laws to Port projects and looking at how moving cargo and building new structures could affect port strategic goals, or things like noise, air, water quality and cultural resources. Our team engages in many different tasks that help the Port and the communities we serve thrive.

Permitting

Port projects typically involve some type of environmental permitting or review. The Port's environmental staff evaluates which permits may be required for each project and coordinates with the project sponsors to get the project permitted and into construction.
